Challenge
Construction on the 500-bed ‘Centre for National Resilience’ facility in Bullsbrook began in October 2021, with the new completion date set for June 2022.
Located in Bullsbrook, an area with a BAL-29 rating. The site is located around native eucalyptus trees that can cause blockages during the storm season.
The low pitch spandek roofs and large box gutters can block with leaves from overhanging gum trees, which has caused water to back up and inundate the buildings causing major damage to the facility.
Due to the nature of the facility, maintenance minimisation was a crucial consideration for the project also minimising the risk of falls at heights from staff.

Solution
ScreenTech recommended the GutterMesh Emberguard with a 1.9mm hole size to meet the facility’s ember guard solution for buildings throughout the centre.
The gutter guard would significantly reduce both the maintenance upkeep of constantly cleaning gutters, reduced WH&S risk to the centre, and significantly reduce the risk of ember attack and over-flow flooding in these buildings.
ScreenTech also ensured a complete colour-match with Colorbond Monument® and supplied colour-matched Super-dek clip for the span-dek roof profile.

Ember guard is designed for bushfire prone areas subject to heavy ember attack with a 1.9mm aperture. The small hole size also makes it ideal to filter fine debris including pine trees and jacarandas. The mesh strength makes it ideal for possums, bird and vermin proofing, but still works during heavy downpours to ensure maximum water collection.
